NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell — Vh1

Art direction, animation, music, and historical consulting for this epochal two-part miniseries for Vh1, detailing the vicissitudes of life in New York City during the year 1977. With the Son of Sam running amok, the Blackout threatening the safety of an already bankrupt city, and a tense mayoral election constantly running, New York City nonetheless was a hotbed of artistic and social expression in 1977. From the worldwide explosion of punk rock from its incubator at CBGB’s on the Bowery, the rapid rise of Hip Hop in the Bronx, the emergence of dance club culture on the west side, to the blossoming of the graffiti, breakdancing, and b-boy culture throughout the city, 1977 was a pivotal year for the city in a number of ways. NY77 was nominated for two Emmys, including “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Art Direction and Design”.
